Celebrate Hari Raya in Malaysia...

Hi!  We just celebrate our National Day on 31st August and this year it a double festival since we have Muslims's celebrated their 1st and 2nd day of  'Hari Raya Aidilfitri' on 30th and 31th of August!

My whole week schedule is full with visiting my muslim's friends house and filled myselft with all the delicious local Malays delicacies.  I would like to share with you some of my Raya's favorite items here.

I love Malays' Raya Cookies!

Lemang
A traditional Malay food made of glutinous rice and coconut milk and cooked in a hollowed bamboo stick lined with banana leaves in order to prevent the rice from sticking to the bamboo. Normally, 'lemang' is serve with 'rendang'

Rendang
Rendang is made from beef or chicken slowly cooked in coconut milk, spices and sometimes for several hours until almost all the liquid is gone, allowing the meat to absorb the spicy condiments. The cooking process changes from boiling to frying as the liquid evaporates. The slow cooking process allows the meat to absorb all the spices and to become tender. The spices may include ginger, turmeric, leaf, lemon grass and chilies.

Dodol

a toffee-like sweet food delicacy.  It is made with coconut milkjaggery, and rice flour, and is sticky, thick and sweet. It normally takes up to 8–9 hours to cook dodol. From the start till the end of the cooking process, the dodol must be constantly stirred in a big wok. Pausing in between would cause the dodol to burn and that will spoil the taste and aroma. The dodol is completely cooked is when it is firm, and doesn't stick to your fingers when you touch it.

Thanks for stopping by.

  5. @CREATIVE MINDYes, that's very true... that's why this sweet is mostly done by guys and they have to take turn to stir it!

  6. @Michelle L.Well, the lemang it really yummy, but this is normally 'cook' by the guys too... at out doors while the ladies cook at the kitchen during Raya! It's need a lot of patient, turning the bamboo to make sure the rice inside is well cooked!
