Me : Oh dear, what you girls want for lunch today?
Mei Mei : Chicken! Chicken!
Jojo : *looking at Mei Mei - Jojo always like to 'correct' Mei Mei sayings* You don't have chicken...chicken is chicken! The one running in the farm! You must tell mommy what chicken you want mommy to cook!
Mei Mei : Chicken lah! The one like KFC!
Jojo : That is called fried chicken!
Mei Mei : I want fried chicken! I want fried chicken, Mommy!
Me : Hmm... fried chicken is not very healthy...can we try something else?
Mei Mei : Sweet sweet chicken! (Mei Mei version of Sweet n sour chicken)
Jojo : Chicken! Chicken! Chicken, again! Later you turn into chicken!
Me : Let me check if I have the recipe... (flipping the recipe book...just newly bought!)
Jojo : Mom! Look! Chicken in lemon sauce! This look nice! Can you cook that?
Me : Lemon....hmmmm..... back into the kitchen. And invent my 'secret recipe'...
*****************************************************************************
Original version of lemon chicken.... My version
INGREDIENTS:
Chicken; Chicken;
1 slice of chicken breast 3 chicken drumstick (chopped)
1 egg 1 teaspoon soya sauce
1 teaspoon of corn flour 1 teaspoon of sugar
1/3 of fresh lemon (squeezed) 1 teaspoon cornstarch
½ teaspoon of white pepper 1 teaspoon of minced garlic
5 drops of sesame oil
4 tablespoons of plain flour.
3 tablespoons of dried breadcrumbs.
Salt to taste
Lemon sauce; Orange sauce :
2/3 of fresh lemon (squeezed) 2 tablespoon of Sunquick orange drink concentrate
1 tablespoon of honey 1 teaspoon chicken stock (optional)
1 cup of water 1 drop dark soya sauce (to add slight color - optional)
2 teaspoon of corn flour 1 teaspoon of light soya sauce (or salt to taste)
2 tablespoon of sugar Some orange zest (or lemon...optional)
1cm ginger (finely chopped)
½ cube of chicken stock
Salt to taste
My method :-
1. I don't like deep fry...so I just brown the chicken in non stick pan.
2. Add in some minced garlic and zest of orange... this make the chicken really fragrant!
3. Pour in the orange sauce. Make sure your pan are really hot! Stir for minutes until the sauce thickening...add drop of dark soya sauce to get the color of reddish orange...

4. Jojo : Mmmm... that smells good! *from the living room*
Me : *All smiles - because I know my lunch project is successful!*
5. The finished product...* I sprinkle some sesame seed on the top*
Mei Mei : *Running to the dining table* Yeah..yeah! My sweet sweet chicken!
Jojo : *Follow at the back* Not sweet sweet chicken...It's Lemon Chicken! - see the recipe book! *showing Mei Mei the recipe book again!*
Me : *with 'evilly grinned face...*Shhh...why break the fun?
Mei Mei finished two bowl of rice during lunch! Lemon or Orange? That's not important...as long as the little stomach is full and satisfy!
Food is for eating, and good food is to be enjoyed...
I think food is, actually, very beautiful in itself.
Have a nice day!
