Trash to sewing tool - Plastics bottle sewing hoop

I don't prefer using plastic bottle...
but sometimes my hubby would bring a few from office.

Today, I found a new way to 'reuse' the bottle

I cut it cross way into circles

And when I combine two circles together....

Voila!!!  I have a small little sewing hoop!

Must do back to school tools - ..Drinking bottle + Sharpener

As a mom, I always have to choose between..

A) A clean house
B) Happy kids

And of course... I believe (B) is a a better choice.
But I can't stand 'messy' house.

So...today...while the little one is doing her favourite pass time activity...coloring

Yes...the little girl understand how her mom would react when seeing
the sharpener waste 'fly' and ' landed' on the freshly mopped floor.
She really did try very hard by holding the sharpening 'inside' the rubbish bin.

Poor thing...she more concentrate in the sharpening process then enjoying the coloring process.

So... something suddenly comes into my mind....

I'm too busy to write down the tutorial...(need to do cleaning....)
hope the pictures flow above helps.

Have a nice day!

Old Plastic Pot to Sea Stone Covered Pot!!! Tutorial

Yeah!  My first DIY on 2014.

I've lots of plastic pot in my garden...
Most of them came from my purchase of plants from the nursery...
Plastic pots are nice and cheap...but they don't stand long in
a hot and wet weather here...and they turn brittle very fast.

But...I don't give up or throw away things easily...
So, I turn them into these ...

I made this pot with some leftover grout and sea stone/sand I collected
during my visit at the beach.

This is how I begin.
#1 Mix the grout with some water...
the mixture need to be thick and sticky.
Spread the grout onto the pot....I've mine about 1cm thick!
(take note...the grout may fall off if the thickness is too thin!)

Hold the pot upside down when you do this,
it will be lot easier.

Move the pot side to side and spreading the grout as you go.

#2 - Pour the sand stone over the grout.
Press them firmly into the grout.

#3 - Dry them under the sun

DONE!

Cost ...

Old plastic pot from plants purchase - $0
Leftover grout - $0 ~ 0.50
Sand stone - Free

Hope you like it!

Template for making ribbon flower...

Just bought a templates set for easy ribbon flower making.

Check it out...

Use the smallest one for making the top layer.  The 'star' shape is for the second layer.
And the biggest one is for the bottom layer.

Making ribbon flower is really easy and fast now!

Here is a diagram of the template...

Trash to Treasure - Plastic Egg Capsules from vending machine...Minions Toy!

Every evening,  I'll fetch Mei Mei and Jojo after school.
I always park in front of a small grocery stalls.

There was a few toy vending machines placed by the store's owneroutside his store.

Those plastic egg that contain 'secret' toys vending machine
are a big hits during after school time.

The kids will rush out from the school gates...and feed those machine
with their leftover pocket money.

And sadly, after 5 minutes...all the kids left....
and they left behind those all the empty egg shells.

Well, one kids trash is another kids treasure...
Mei Mei and Jojo enjoy collecting those colorful shells.
They kept all sort of little items in it...earrings, rings, eraser,
and Mei Mei even have one specially for her fallen tooth!

Today, when seeing my kids playing with the little shells...
Something popped into my mind.

It just took us few minutes to make some of them into these....

My 'pumpkin' project...

Pumpkin seems to fill the pages of Pinterest lately
Jojo and I can't help but to try our hands
to do something related to 'it'.

And we did a minutes DIY today...
I always adore decor in small scale
So, in the beginning,
we try to source some some baby pumpkin
from local stores and markets...

But...no luck.

And pumpkins are not cheap too..

So, this morning when I was busy filled up the groceries stock in the kitchen
Jojo gave me a big shout when she came into the kitchen.

"MOM!!! PUMPKIN!  BABY PUMPKIN!"

I was thinking "What the ...until I saw what she was pointing at...
Those white garlic I just bought from the market.

Yes, some of them do have the looks of a mini size pumpkin
and with the help of some imagination ... I guess it's possible...

Dress Up Your Pen! A teacher's gift...

Today, Mei Mei's kindergarden had a farewell party
for a teacher there.
She is one of Mei Mei favorite teacher.

Mei Mei wants to make her something 'special' as a farewell gift.
So, three of us started to 'cracked' our head for a 'best' gift to prepare for the teacher.

We only have a night time to prepare for the gift
as Mei Mei just told Jojo and me after she came back from school last evening.

As I don't have much resources on hand...
with some ribbons, leftover fabrics and tulle...
We 'dress-up' a few pens into stalks of flower.

This is our inspiration....

Top Sites Your Should Submit Your Awesome Projects to ...(and gain all the attention, fan and followers you deserved)

When I first involved in blogging.  I starts to share my crafts and projects in linky parties.  I did earn a lot of followers and receiving a lot of heart warming comments from joining the parties.  Then, I created a Facebook fan page for those who don't blog often, so they can comment and follow my blog easily.  Slowly, my blog traffic increase.

Getting featured in linky parties do help a lot in my blog exposure but it don't happened always and to get spotted among hundreds of projects...the chances is quite low, regardless how great the project is.

During my first year of blogging, my daily blog page views is about 300 ~ 500. My blog very first page view "great hike" is last August 2011.  That when my 'Sequin Sunburst Mirror" get featured in "Dollar Store Craft".  The daily view hit thousand for the first time and the total August pageviews are 25K, and my followers group multiplied over night.  It may be a small figure for you, but a 'mega' step for the first year MeiJo's Joy!  I owe this to a very thoughtful blog's friend - Mich of Mich L. in L.A.

Then only I realized, the second option to increase my blog exposure and gain more traffics into my newly build blog is to submit my project to a site.  Result?  ...for example...I have not post since last 10 days...but my recent pageviews is still quite high at about 3000~ 4000 daily.  And the total pageviews  for MeiJo's Joy in May is 180, 772.

Moss Clog for Spring?

We don't have Spring here,
but the weather is just nice with lot of rain fall.

All the greens in my tiny garden looks healthier than ever.
The pepper seeds and some others flowers seedling
I placed earlier...months ago, which I thought 'didn't make it',
all 'show up' unexpectedly!

This morning, Mei Mei has her clog caught up with
some grass.  She came running into the kitchen and show me...
"Mom, I have moss growing on my clog"

And it sound such a lovely idea!
So, I make this for her.

How to stretch Jeans at the Waist! Easy n Low Sew!

I have a few old jeans in my wardrobe that I absolutely love, but I don't wear them anymore because my waistline doesn't seems 'willing' to get back to it original measurement since I have my children.

I know there are dozens of way how we can 'recycle or upcycled' an old pair of jeans, but the best way I prefer is to be able 'wear' them again!

So, this is what I did!  This is a very simple, easy, low sew project to 'upsized' the waistline of your jeans.  I managed to expand the waistline another 1~2 inches in this way.  And the result...even much lovely that the old jeans...see the AFTER ...

and this below is the BEFORE
(the very beginning was a long one,
the second life was a capri...
the third life was a shorts as shown here...)

DIY - Bias Tape Maker

Hi!  This post is to share my recent discovery when I came across a bias tape maker in Susie Can Stitch.  I''m still learning to sew and seeing the cute little bias tape maker she have...make me want to have one too!...even though I haven't decide what to do with bias tape...but making them looks so much fun.

Since I don't have a bias tape maker...so, I just sort of 'make' one.... This is how I do it...

Material : Craft cutting blade, some fabric straps, hair straightener (yup...)

These are what I have on hand
a common craft cutting blade..

Prepare some fabric straps... you should cut yours in bias grain for actual bias tape!
(Mine are just normal fabric scrap...not a bias grain one..
This post is mean to demo how the cutter case works as a bias tape maker)

Washi Tape ...Nail!

I'm never a 'girly' person even when I was young...
neither am I now...
I always complaint how much time my little sister spent on
her nails rather than school works or house chorus...

But...today, when I was 'playing' around with
my washi tape collection...
I end up with this...

It only take a few fast minutes.
