How to help your children find they talent?

I know this is a very serious question
This are one of the many questions that running through my mind
whenever I unable to sleep at night

Laying on my bed...having my kids in my arms
Looking at the stars and wondering
how to make my kids as bright as the star when they grow up one day!

And of course...I never have a satisfied answer or solution
As a mom...I teach, I guide, I supervise, I pray for them.

And finally...something happened!

Just sharing - Never fried your OREO if you really LOVE them!

Last weekend, my lovely niece told me that
she tasted a new snack when she visited
a snack bar after a movie with her friends.

It's "Deep fried Oreo" and according to her
it's absolutely amazing!

My kids love Oreo and I love to try new stuff...

So, this afternoon we tried out that "recipe"
I goggled a little about the how to...
Sound super simple and easy

After few minutes...
The warm crunchy pieces are in front of the kids...

The best and cheapest therapy for pressure ...

As you can see...
I 'lost' and 'loose' again...
(lost from blogging...loose , get beaten by pressure from life)

Life is so blue and the pressure is
getting from bad to worst.

The problem I have is nothing different from any
mom and wife and daughter in the world...

As a mom... there are so many things I want to teach my kids,
but sometimes... they have to make they own mistakes...
which repeated my mistake...in order to grow and understand.
and I can only “wait and see"
This is pretty sad!

As a wife
We must always give and take
and most of the time
We just keep giving and
forgot about our worth.

As a daughter...
We started to feel and see
what our mom told us when we were young
but we are too busy to bother...
Now, we are old...and our parents even older...
We turn into them and they turn into..."someone else"!

Today
I have a small chat with Jojo's classmate's mom...
We don't really know each other
and we never talk before

It's all started with a weak smile
and within seconds
we talked like we have known for years...

Telling each others our frustration and problems
begin with the kids and their school works
and soon into family and life.

The chat last for 20 minutes
but
after that

It's seem "lift away" my frustration and problems...
I feel so "light" in my heart like never before
All my "heart weight" seems gone...

Not because I figure out how to solve my problems...
But sometimes
It just "delightful"...
just to find out...
there are someone just like yourself...
out there...
or every where...
not too far...
by your side...

Don't you think?

When you are blue...
Just talk to someone!
It's really work!

Visit by 4 sisters

I have been so busy lately...2 school exams ( Mei Mei & Jojo ), flu (Jojo), coughing (Mei Mei), a blocked kitchen sink, a VIP visit (my mother in law and her 3 sisters from Singapore came over for a week....), cooking, washing...painting...and most recent....seriously addicted to PINTEREST .... I am so sorry for not posting anything crafty recently...Sorry for been such a bad blog friend.  I did check out all your new post..but just out of good words to inspire you!

Maybe I should share with you my last week routine when my MIL (mother in law) and her sisters are here.  They are really nice people, I really look forward for their visit and I know this visit means so much to my MIL.  My MIL stayed in Malaysia after married and hardly went back to Singapore, I know she miss her family so much.  My MIL is a very nice lady and my best mom too!  She treat me like her daughter the first day I meet her.  I visit all her sisters in Singapore too, and they are as sweet and kind as my MIL.  Now, I have the chance to repay they kindness.

So, as an typical Asian daughter in law, I wish to "perform" the very best when these VIP came over.  I clean and re-organized the whole house a week before their arrival, make sure everything is 'friendly' for them (safety, cleanliness, etc) and the food! (The elder sister have history of cancer..., the second is my MIL - have problem with her ankle, cannot walk or stand too long; the third sister is a vegan and maintain very healthy no oil, no salt, no sugar diet and finally the youngest sister is 'everything is ok' person!
I spend days looking for recipe which able to suite everyone.  Add in beds in the guest room, so they all can share the same room and chat the whole night as long as they wish.  Planning relaxing places and activities that might interest them but not to tiring.  And get a few nice old movies to fill they free time in between.
When they are here...I make sure I wake up the earliest to prepare some hot breakfast for them...(I don't want them to trouble themselves in the kitchen) and stay up a bit later so I can tidy up the living room, do the laundry and mop the floor - So, the next morning, everything will look nice and pleasant.  I just want them to have a 'perfect' rest time.

I am exhausted but I really do enjoy the time when they are here, the saddest time is when they say good bye.  The elder sister said, "We are very old already and each with own illness...this would most probably be our LAST visit... do take care of your MIL and try to bring her to Singapore when you free!"  Oh dear! I always hate say good bye... and seeing they shadow vanished into the airport gate and thinking of the 'LAST' word make my heart break!

May God Bless and comfort my elderly parents.

May He ease their pain (both physical and mental) and
comfort them that they have lived a good and productive life.

That they have touched and helped so many they know

and do not know by their kind hearts and deeds.

May He ease and comfort them and assist them
to deal with those who do not show the respect they so richly deserve
May He teach those persons to value and appreciate their elders
and those things that are truly important.
May He Bless and give my family (and my parent's friends),
the wisdom and strength to care for and protect them from harm.

Study week....

Hi,

Yes, I'm a bit off my "crafting" schedule...been pretty busy with a few agendas lately... getting the kids back to school, help Jojo to prepare for her 2nd Semester Examination (which will decide what class she will be group into for the next 5 years in primary...Yup, it's a very 'big deal' stuff here .... Malaysia!!!

Some parents took long leave from job just to accompany their children for the 'study week'.  Nope, I'm not kidding!  So, since I'm a SAHM - that mean I need to 'play' that part!   Please don't judge about this issue, and for your information.. nope.. my parents don't do this when I was in school..never!  But, the culture just change...why? It's just a 'culture' thing especially among the Chinese community here in Asia.

You can easily found the such conversation in market place.. in public bus station.. or any 'Kopitiam (local coffee shop)'..."Wah!  your kids so big already ah?  Go to school ah?  What class?  A class or B class?  Why no go tuition meh?   My kids go extra class everyday - after school tuition classes in the morning and I get a private tutor to teach my kids 1 to 1 at night!
I'm a former teacher and currently a part time tuition tutor.. but the idea of sending kids to tuition center everyday?  It sound really exhausted and boring for me!  I've been approached by a mother, asking me to provide tuition to her son (6 years old) - she want a 1 to 1 (1 tutor for 1 kid) session, 6 session per week, 2 hour per session...she willing to pay ..her intention - to ensure her son did not stay at home for TV or games or whatever....  don't be surprise...This is a very common thinking of all mom here!

So, my plan for Jojo?  I just want her to score distinction in the subject of Grateful and Merciful - knowing what is right and wrong, and be a kid...simple normal kid, playful with lot of imagination, believe in fairies and angels,  just like me when I was her age.

I'm 'Pin' but I'm not glad!!!

I been keeping this for some days. At first, I thought I should just ignore it and let go... but, it's just seem too hard and very heart breaking.  I'm really demotivated by this case.   I don't might cruel comments in my comment box, but get 'pinned' and 'comment' in Pinterest?  I don't really enjoy this!

Well, who doesn't appreciate to have their projects been 'pinned' in Pinterest?  Have your projects pinned means someone been inspired by your creativity...am I right?  Well, I thought I was until recently I saw one of my project been pinned for  "Derisive Laughter Will Ring Out Amongst Shoppers At Your Estate Sale If You Have All This Junk" ...

No, this doesn't look like a stainless steel vase. It looks like you wrapped a piece of ramen wrapper around a Pringles can. If you are dressing sets for a TV show it might work. For a real house, with real people looking up close, no.

Yes, check it out - there are few project by SHOWCASE together with mine, and one of them is my favorite!

Well, I must clarify.  Not all my projects Most of my projects are from JUNK, I enjoy the pleasure of turning them into something rather than just throw them away.  The reason I share them on the blog is not to ask anyone to follow my or do exactly what I do but just to pass the idea junk can be more useful than just pass to the recycle centers or garbage cans. I clearly know the above samples are not 'stainless stain vase' but just delighted to see a simple piece on ramen can create such a nice pattern when paste on a Pringles can.

And last but not least, I will continue making these junk or "Derisive Laughter Will Ring Out Amongst Shoppers At Your Estate Sale If You Have All This Junk" or whatever you want to name it.

I just don't understand - why people "pin-dislike/hate/joke" when it's actually for you to pin something you love?  Is this the recent 'trend'?

Okay... thanks for listening!  I'm out of here and adventure into my next crazy junky creations.

Simple thing that make me happy...

Remember the mirror I used for the 'easy' Sunburst Mirror?  I bought the mirror for RM1.00 from local night market.  I think the price is a steal!

It came with a cute pinky frame.

I am so glad that the frame can dismantle easily without damage.

This cute frame is just perfect for a towel holder!  Now, that is really a great bargain!

Life can be quite fulfilling...
if you choose simple happiness.

Good old days!

When I was a kid, I didn't have a laptop, iPod, Blackberry, PS3, Wifi or designer dresses.  In fact, there are so many things which is 'basics' to kids nowadays which I don't have and never bother to ask my parents to buy it for me...I have a happy childhood and I am contented with these...

...intercom my brother anytime, not need to top-up, re-charge...
(Jojo :  What is this?)

...my bicycle...
(Mei Mei : Why grandpa don't paint it PINK?)
(JoJo : Mom, you can tie some PINK ribbon around it!)

Marbles!...one of the Must Have...the more the better!
(Mei Mei :  These are for the fish tank and vase!)

...my most luxury toy at that time..I can spend hours, days...

paper dolls...
.another must have when you have friends coming over for tea party...
(Mei Mei :  Mom, don't you have Barbie doll?)

...this is my school bag for secondary school...
the bag followed my for 5 good years...
(JoJo :  Mom, don't girls use PINK school bag in those day?)
(Mei Mei : Why no princess stickers?)

Black and white TV...and back in those day...
cartoon only aired in the evening for 30 minutes..that's all...
(Jojo :  Look like a SAFE...so many switches?)

I played outside with friends...
(Mom : No, Mei Mei.  You can't play in the river now..
it's polluted and full of trash nowadays!)

bruised my knees, made up stories
and played hide and seek...
(Mom : Don't play outside... you will get kidnapped!!!)

I ate what my mom made.
(Mei Mei :  Yuck!  I want to go to Mc D!!!)

I would think twice before I say "NO" to my parents!
(Jojo : No.  I don't want to go to bed.  I want to finished this game first!)

Life wasn't hard, it was Good & I Survived.
Now, we make life easier for our kids...will they survived as we did?

I wish my kids can enjoy and appreciate the same childhood experience
like I once did..
But...can these be applicable to my kids?

Guess not....
Because my mom wouldn't mind
about computers and network..
But I can't live without
Blogging...........
cos I'll be missing you guys!

What about you?
What do you think?

Be grateful and enjoy what we have for free...

I kept this with me long ago... it was always in one of my teen years diaries.  I'm not sure who's the author, do let me know if you have the answer.  Just though I should share this nice piece with you all...

OUR  FOR  FREE

So many things in life are far,
Beyond our meager means.
A long hoped for vacation,
Just for a change of scenes.
A penthouse with a terrace,
That boast a lovely view.
A cottage by the seaside,
... Just dreams for me and you.

And yet is so much within
This world we can afford,
We all should welcome each new day,
and no one should be bored.
For while it's true we might not get
To see a foreign land,
Or sail across the ocean
There's something just as grand.

And every bit as beautiful
Within each passing day
That only cost us something
If we let it slip away
Very much within our reach
And meant for us to share
One-in-a-lifetime moments
Encountered everywhere

A tender smile, a gentle touch,
Night wind through the trees,
Sunrise, sunset, autumn leaves,
What can compare with these?
Flower by roadside
A treasured memory.
I think the very best in life
Is what God gives for free.

Peacock feathers for feng shui?

Hi!

Recently I received 6 pieces of beautiful peacock feathers from my mom.  She said I should place them at the back of my car as amulets to protect one from accident or burglaries.  I was a bit skeptic at first..until I check out the feng shui websites.   Well, no harm to believe I think.

According to the feng shui, "peacock feathers are excellent amulets to protect one against accidents, illness, burglaries, misfortunes and to ward off disease.  They are symbols of compassion and immortality, by virtue of their ability to adsorb and neutralize bad energy and sickness.

Among my favorite sayings or believe in feng shui related to peacocks is "A symbol of beauty reminding us to take pleasure in the finer things in life."  Hmm...finer things in life...for me.. it has to be what God give us for FREE...sunshine, fresh air, beautiful flowers, fascinating scenery...etc.

As for the peacock feathers... they are too pretty to place in the car...so I put them in a PVC bottle vase and display them in my living room...

Till then,

To cook or 'Ta Pao'? - a housewife in Malaysia.

Hi, again.

Today, I would like to share with you, a part of a housewife life in Malaysia...preparing meals for the family...but don't be too excited, I am not sharing any interesting recipe..

To be honest...I'm not a good cook ( I do enjoy cooking and baking...but I just not good enough...the success rate of my cooking is about 60% = can eat..wouldn't fall sick...10% = good (by luck...may not taste the same on second try..)  The only best dish I have good success history is have to be making soup, frying some noodles, steaming chicken and some simple dessert).

Well, every night before bed... I will go through my fridge and dry grocery to see what to prepare for the next day breakfast, lunch, tea break and dinner..  (This is another 'dilemma'...I don't know why I keep doing this ..I worried when my fridge is getting empty...and..I can't wait to clear my fridge when they look full!)
So, today...I decide not to cook and I have a very good excuse..Jojo and Mei Mei are going to have their first half yearly examination in the next few weeks...I would rather spend more time revising their homework that making 60% successful rate dish in the kitchen!

Well,  'not cooking' may not means eating out... In Malaysia, we have a lot of those food stall which help 'busy and not good at cooking mom' like me.  These food stall are call 'Economy Rice Stall' locally..mind the name.. economy...not all is cheap..it's depends on what food you buy.

Economy Rice Stall is a stall selling varieties type of dishes.  They cook in a large quantities and the customer can choose, pick and mix themselves.  In Malaysia, especially Chinese family like mine, we prefer to eat rice and serve with these dishes for lunch and dinner.  The stall also serve white rice...you can have your meal there or take-away.  Normally, I would buy home a few dishes (one or two dishes for each family member favourite)  and cook the rice myself (I can have brown rice instead of white, much healthier choice!)

Actually, if you have small family like me, it's much frugal to buy ready cook dish like this than buy fresh vege and meat from the market and cook it yourself.

There...lunch and dinner DONE!

Love, PC
