Minutes DIY : Old jeans to Pencilcase roll (No sew project)

It's close to the end of school season.
Mei Mei turns "Grumpy" today because she have some trouble
with her coloring pencils.

Well, the original paper case for the color pencil got wore off.
I offer her a small plastic drinking bottle to keep
all her color pencils but her still not happy.
The color pencils are all in various length and size.

However, Mei Mei still  prefer to have her color pencil 'display'
in a proper manner when she used them.

Well, just my luck.
I saw a piece of old corduroy laying nearby,
(actually I plan to reused it for something else)

I cut a piece of fabric from the pants.

cut 2 row of tiny holes along the length

Now, everyone is lining up like a rainbow
Hope you like this impromptu DIY.

Have a nice day and thanks for drop by.

TP rolls toy Binoculars - easy n cute

Today is Mei Mei arts class again
This week her homework is TP rolls binoculars...

After browsing through Pinterest...
She still not happy with the samples she found...

So, this is her creations after some 'upgrade' from
what she learn from the internets...

She did it within an hour.
Yes, she is very proud of her works
and so am I.

She used some old strings which I salvaged earlier from
old drinking bottle (the green and blue ones)

Cut some flower shape cardboard...for the 'lens'
wrap the lens with large roll of sticky tape / cellophane tapes
to make an 'easy instant ' lens'  glass.

Connect the tp rolls with a empty staples bullets box.
wrap with color paper and decor with washi tapes.

Add to little cute eraser owls to enhance the 'watch out' level.
Love it!

Must do back to school tools - ..Drinking bottle + Sharpener

As a mom, I always have to choose between..

A) A clean house
B) Happy kids

And of course... I believe (B) is a a better choice.
But I can't stand 'messy' house.

So...today...while the little one is doing her favourite pass time activity...coloring

Yes...the little girl understand how her mom would react when seeing
the sharpener waste 'fly' and ' landed' on the freshly mopped floor.
She really did try very hard by holding the sharpening 'inside' the rubbish bin.

Poor thing...she more concentrate in the sharpening process then enjoying the coloring process.

So... something suddenly comes into my mind....

I'm too busy to write down the tutorial...(need to do cleaning....)
hope the pictures flow above helps.

Have a nice day!

My hubby always get the wrong sauce during his meal time,
even though I have use the 'color' system...red for hot sauce and yellow for tomato...

So, this is my new attempt to make the kitchen more friendly to him!

Trash to Treasure - Plastic Egg Capsules from vending machine...Minions Toy!

Every evening,  I'll fetch Mei Mei and Jojo after school.
I always park in front of a small grocery stalls.

There was a few toy vending machines placed by the store's owneroutside his store.

Those plastic egg that contain 'secret' toys vending machine
are a big hits during after school time.

The kids will rush out from the school gates...and feed those machine
with their leftover pocket money.

And sadly, after 5 minutes...all the kids left....
and they left behind those all the empty egg shells.

Well, one kids trash is another kids treasure...
Mei Mei and Jojo enjoy collecting those colorful shells.
They kept all sort of little items in it...earrings, rings, eraser,
and Mei Mei even have one specially for her fallen tooth!

Today, when seeing my kids playing with the little shells...
Something popped into my mind.

It just took us few minutes to make some of them into these....

5 minutes + zero cost - 'Fix' a torn cushion cover!

Well, no matter how sweet and innocent my two little girls look to you...
they could be 'devils' at some times.

No?  You don't believe me?
Look what they done to my 5 years old sofa ...

I don't know how they did it...bite it? ...scratch it?
(and I have no other pet in the house...or out the house...)

I love the sofa cover very much, and since it was 5 years old since I last
bought it...it was hard to get the same fabric for redo.

I have been hunting high and low for a matching fabric but
nothing comes close to it's original color, pattern or fabric texture.

And the worse part is...even though I get the right fabric...
I'm not confident at all I been able to do such a fine job to
sew a new cover...the particular one that torn is a "L" shape cushion...
making  a normal 'square' one already challedge my sewing skill, I'm afraid!

Before thinking of sewing a new one...

I have tried to sew the broken yarn together with some matching thread...
and I end up..sew the cushion and the cover together!!!
And the torn looks even worse!

Jojo and her 'shapes' assignment!

Last evening, Jojo 'bring' a last minutes assignment from school...

TITLE

"Creatively combine 3D shapes into an item"

Honestly...I love 'handwork' and project require creativity and imagination...

but...one evening notice...Urghhh.....

Do I have any problem?

Not really...but I just send a big batch of paper, carboard...etc to the recycle centre...

Why...whenever the trash bin in cleared????

What ever...

At last...Jojo made it...
(with a little help from me...I just love to participate in craft work project!)

We manage to clear out a shoe box, some bottle caps,
cardboard and some biscuit wrapper...

Here it is...

No...it's not a house...
(someone in the class has taken this idea )

is not a building...
(mama don't have enough box of different shapes...:p)

is not a robot...

it's a.....

Camera!!!

can you see the box from candles and
the little square one is the squash ball box.

the lens is a potatoes chip cylinder tube

Dress Up Your Pen! A teacher's gift...

Today, Mei Mei's kindergarden had a farewell party
for a teacher there.
She is one of Mei Mei favorite teacher.

Mei Mei wants to make her something 'special' as a farewell gift.
So, three of us started to 'cracked' our head for a 'best' gift to prepare for the teacher.

We only have a night time to prepare for the gift
as Mei Mei just told Jojo and me after she came back from school last evening.

As I don't have much resources on hand...
with some ribbons, leftover fabrics and tulle...
We 'dress-up' a few pens into stalks of flower.

This is our inspiration....

How to stretch Jeans at the Waist! Easy n Low Sew!

I have a few old jeans in my wardrobe that I absolutely love, but I don't wear them anymore because my waistline doesn't seems 'willing' to get back to it original measurement since I have my children.

I know there are dozens of way how we can 'recycle or upcycled' an old pair of jeans, but the best way I prefer is to be able 'wear' them again!

So, this is what I did!  This is a very simple, easy, low sew project to 'upsized' the waistline of your jeans.  I managed to expand the waistline another 1~2 inches in this way.  And the result...even much lovely that the old jeans...see the AFTER ...

and this below is the BEFORE
(the very beginning was a long one,
the second life was a capri...
the third life was a shorts as shown here...)

Another refashion story : 1 Jumpsuit = 2 Easy Peasy Aprons

Hi, again!
Remember the old-non wearable shorts jumpsuit I have ...
after I recyled the front pocket for Jojo's tote bag...

I'm not so sure what to do with it

I don't have any plan...
So, I just cut away the bottom seam of the shorts
and rolled into a simple 'flower'...
but I still not very happy with it

Now, what to do with the 'leftover' of the jumpsuit?
As you can see...I still clueless...
So, I use a seam ripper to disconnect the front and the back panel of the jumpsuit
Yup!!! And there it was!  I absolutely know what to do with them now!!!

Step #1
Remove the side seam of your jumpsuit
to produce a front and back panel

Step #2
Sew two pieces of  2 ~ 3 feet long strap about an inch width.

Step #3
Attach the straps on the back panel of the jumpsuit

Step#4
Ask your daughter to help you with the camera while you 'model' the result!
Like this.

I am actually wearing the back panel of the jumpsuit!
